WA Racing is hotting up with their Summer Carnival and they have three Group 3 races this upcoming Saturday at Ascot. For the New Zealand fans there is the Group 1 New Zealand 1,000 Guineas and the Group 3 New Zealand Cup at Riccarton along with the Group 2 Tauranga Stakes at Tauranga on Saturday …

We have made some enhancements to the website in the last few days, many thanks to Martin K for the feedback. The first one is the Account Statements, all the bets are lined up correctly now so if there is a return it will appear directly on the line below where the wager was placed. This will make it much easier to reconcile your wagers and balance. Secondly on the right side of the website under the “Next to Jump” column the races that have concluded will sit there for 20 mins with an indicator showing either Closed, Interims, Final and also if there is a Protest it will appear here also……We have more enhancements happening in the next few weeks, we will keep you posted in the next VNEWS….

Who was Kevin Heffernan? Kevin was a longtime Victoria Amateur Turf Club (VATC) and Melbourne Racing Club (MRC) Committeeman who passed away in 2012. The fifth race at Sandown on Saturday is named in his honour and it is a Group 3 race over 1,300 metres. Kevin was a very good friend of mine and when I commenced Bookmaking in 1992 he helped me immensely and I have never forgot all the advice and help I received from Kevin. The race has had Group 3 status since 2013 and some notable winners of the Group 3 Kevin Heffernan Stakes include Lucky Hussler (2016), Famous Seamus (2015), Lankan Rupee (2013), Mid Summer Music (2012), Soul (2011), Lucky Secret (2009), Tesbury Jack (2006), Bomber Bill (2005), Century Kid (2002) and Sports (2000).
