VJOKE
Robbie from Rosebud is walking along and happens to see his old High School Mate Longy up ahead “Longy, Longy, how are you?” he greets his old buddy after getting his attention. “Not so good,” says Longy. “Why, what happened?” Robbie queries. “Well,” Longy says, “I just went bankrupt and I’ve still got to feed my family. I don’t know what I’m going to do.” “Could have been worse,” Robbie replies calmly. “Could have been worse.” A month or so later, Robbie again encounters Longy, in a restaurant. “And how are things now?” he asks. “Terrible!” says Longy. “Our house burned down last night.” “Could have been worse,” says Robbie, again with total aplomb, and goes about his business. A month later, Robbie runs into Longy for a third time. “Well, how goes it now?” he inquires. “Oh!” says Longy. “Things just get worse and worse for me. It’s one tragedy after another! Now my wife has left me!” Robbie nods his head and gives his usual optimistic-seeming little smile, accompanied by his usual words: “Could’ve been worse.” This time, Longy grabs Robbie by the shoulders. “Wait a minute!” he says. “I’m not gonna let you off so easy this time. Three times in the last few months we’ve run into each other and every time I’ve told you the latest disaster in my life. Every time you say the same thing: ‘Could have been worse.’ This time, for God’s sake, Robbie, I want you to tell me: how in Heaven’s name could it have been any worse?” Robbie looks at Longy with the same little wisp of a smile. “Could have been worse,” he says. “Could have happened to me.”

VH2H – Head to Head Betting
VICBET H2H Betting is unique to us and is available every race day and night in two groups of three. It is the three Favourites (1st, 2nd and 3rd) combined in one H2H outcome and the second H2H is the 4th, 5th and 6th Favourites combined, excluding the Fav if it is Odds-on (under $2). This is a moving dynamic market so as the odds change for the actual race the odds will change for the H2H outcome. VFACTS
Who was Charles F Orr? Let’s roll the clock back to the to the Williamstown Racecourse where the race was run from 1925-1940 in his honour. Most people don’t know that after WW2 the Government of the day said there was to be four racecourses in Metropolitan Melbourne: Williamstown, Caulfield, Flemington and Moonee Valley. However it was John Wren’s influence that had Williamstown close in 1949 after he purchased Sandown Racecourse the same year after it had been closed in 1931. Charles F Orr’s obituary was published by the Williamstown Chronicle on Saturday, November 14, 1931 and is available to this day in the National Library of Australia archives. “One of the pioneers of the shipwright and docking industry in Victoria, Mr Charles F. Orr, died on Thursday at his home in Toorak Road, Toorak, at the age of 85 years,” the obituary read. “After spending his boyhood in Hawthorn district, Mr. Orr settled in Williamstown, and became associated with Wright’s slip works there. “He went into partnership with Mr. Wright, and the business, in the name of Wright and Orr, was extended to Melbourne. “In racing circles, Mr. Orr was very highly esteemed. “He became a member of Williamstown Racing Club in 1871, and the following year was elected a member of the club’s committee. “During the troublous times the club went through some years later, Mr. Orr rendered valuable service. “He was Chairman, Treasurer and Secretary for many years. Finally as a footnote the Williamstown Racing Club was actually located in Altona. The C F Orr Stakes has been run at all four Melbourne Metropolitan Race Tracks – Flemington, Moonee Valley, Sandown and now the current home at Caulfield with the 2020 version running on this upcoming Saturday. Notable winners of the CF Orr Stakes include Heroic (1927), Gothic (1929), Mildura (1941), Flight (1946), Comic Court (1951), Rising Fast (1956), Lord (1959/1960), Wenona Girl (1962), Aquanita (1963), Tobin Bronze (1967), Winfreux (1968), Black Onyx (1971), All Shot (1974), Leilani (1975), Surround (1977), Hyperno (1978), Manikato (1979/1980/1981), At Talaq (1987), Vo Rogue (1988/1989/1990), Let’s Elope (1992), Durbridge (1993), Primacy (1994), Jeune (1995), Saintly (1997), Redoute’s Choice (2000), Lonhro (2004), Elvstroem (2005), El Segundo (2007), Maldivian (2009), Typhoon Tracy (2010/2011), Black Caviar (2012), All Too Hard (2013), Moment Of Change (2014), Dissident (2015), Black Heart Bart (2017) and Hartnell (2018).
