Late one night a burglar broke into a house and while he was sneaking around he heard a voice say, “Jesús is watching you.” He looked around and saw nothing. He kept on creeping around looking to see what he could steal and again he heard, “Jesús is watching you.” In a dark corner, he saw a cage with a parrot inside. The burglar asked the parrot, “Was it you who said Jesús is watching me” The parrot replied, “Yes it was.” Relieved, the burglar then asked, “What is your name?” The parrot said, “Clarence.” The burglar said, “That’s a very stupid name for a parrot. What idiot named you Clarence?” The parrot answered, “The same idiot that named the Rottweiler Jesús, would you like me to tell you what Jesus did to the last burglar?”

To begin a big week of racing, we head back to the Valley on Friday night! Moonee Valley is hosting the Group 1 William Reid Stakes as well as  Group 2 and Group 3 races. Saturday is an exciting day for Sydney Racing fans with Rosehill hosting their biggest day on the calendar. It kicks off with the Group 1 Golden Slipper. There is also the Group 1 Ranvet Stakes, Group 1 Galaxy, Group 1 George Ryder Stakes and the Group 1 Rosehill Guineas. It doesn’t end there! Over in Ascot there is also a Group 3 racing……

The Golden Slipper Stakes was first run in 1957 with prize money of 20,000 pounds and truly is Australia’s best two year-old race. It was won by Todman who started 6 to 1 on ($1.16) and won by 8 lengths. It has been a Group 1 race since 1979 and this year the race is worth $3,500,000. Gai Waterhouse has the most wins with seven and her Dad – The Legendary T.J. Smith has six wins. Shane Dye and Ron Quinton have the most winners as jockeys with four each. As a guide to punters if you are having a wager on the Slipper you need your selection to draw barriers one to five.  In one of the most sensational performances ever to win a Golden Slipper, flying filly Belle Du Jour claimed a last stride victory after missing the start and coming from last with a whirlwind finish. The win gave jubilant trainer Clarry Conners his fourth Golden Slipper victory in ten years, and young jockey Lenny Beasley his first. The effort of Belle Du Jour denied Lee Freedman a record fifth win in the event with his filly Crowned Glory finishing a close second. Favourite Assertive Lad was a courageous third. To watch what I recall as the most amazing, freakish victory and a brilliant race call by Ian Craig in the 2000 Golden Slipper Stakes (owned by the Late Bob Hawke and John Singleton) – CLICK HERE.

With an emphasis on Horse Racing solely we are the Old Fashioned type of Bookmakers (four generations going back to 1941) concentrating purely on Horse Racing, no Sports, Harness or Greyhounds .
