VJOKE

A Byron Hippie is in a bus and sees a very beautiful lady and he goes to the lady and asks “Can I go with you?”, the lady replies by saying “Sorry I can’t, I am a Nun my body and my soul belongs to the Lord.” The hippie then walks away and starts to exit the bus because he has arrived at his bus stop. However, as he is getting off the bus the driver says “You know that Nun you were chatting to, well she always goes to the cemetery and prays so you should go there and dress up like Jesus”. The hippie then says what a brilliant idea, I will do that when it is dark. He then goes to the cemetery and sees the Nun praying, he put his Jesus outfit on, wanders over and in the darkness and says to the Nun he would like to be with her. He says he shall forgive her sins and she says yes and they start to make love. When they are done the hippie rips his Jesus outfit off and says surprise its me – the Hippie! Then the Nun rips her dress off, her tunic and the headpiece to cover the face and screams surprise its me the Bus Driver!

Harry Tancred came to thoroughbred racing after building up with his brothers one of the largest companies in the Australian meat industry. Tancred raced many horses, the best of which was High Caste who won 33 races carrying his colors. He was elected to the Committee of the Sydney Turf Club in 1941, appointed Vice-Chairman in 1945, served as Chairman from 1953-59, and retired from the Committee in 1961. As Chairman Tancred encouraged new ideas. Once satisfied as to the merits of a proposal he brought all his tenacity and drive to achieve its implementation. The photo finish, mobile starting stalls, and electronic timing devices were cases in point where the STC was a forerunner for developments which have since become standard equipment at racecourses. Tancred also presided over the Committee when it inaugurated Australia’s premier race for two-year-old’s, the Golden Slipper Stakes. The Tancred Stakes was first run in 1963 and was won by Maidenhead. There have been 10 mare winners with last Saturday’s Ranvet Stakes winner Verry Elleegant the most recent last year.  John Hawkes is the most successful trainer with five while Shane Dye has also won on five occasions. They combined with the great Octagonal to win in 1997. Since the race became WFA, only Kingston Town (1980) and Tie The Knot (1999) have done the Tancred Stakes/Sydney Cup double. Almandin became the fifth winner of the Melbourne Cup to also win the Tancred – Hyperno won it before winning at Flemington but Makybe Diva, Ethereal and Might And Power were successful afterwards. Notable winners of the Tancred Stakes include Tails (1972), Apollo Eleven (1973), Hyperno (1978), Kingston Town (1980), Bonecrusher (1986), Beau Zam (1988), Our Poetic Prince (1989), Sydeston (1990), Octagonal (1996, 1997), Might And Power (1998), Tie The Knot (1999, 2000), Ethereal (2002), Makybe Diva (2005), Eremein (2006), Hartnell (2015), Preferment (2016), Jameka (2017), Almandin (2018), Avilius (2019) and Verry Elleegant (2020).
