The very first photo finish camera was used at Canterbury Racecourse in Sydney in 1946 and was invented by my Wife’s Late Grandfather Maurice Lodge. It was used in a Melbourne Cup for the very first time in 1948 when Rimfire beat Dark Marne. However, many on-course punters believe the result should have been reversed and it was actually later found that the camera was incorrectly aligned. Maurice was overseas at this time in Japan building aeroplanes for five-star General Douglas MacArthur so it was not his fault that it was incorrectly aligned.

With an emphasis on Horse Racing solely we are the Old Fashioned type of Bookmakers (four generations going back to 1941) concentrating purely on Horse Racing, no Sports, Harness or Greyhounds . My Late Father Allen Cleary was a Bookmaker from 1956 – 2006, his Uncle Bob was a Bookmaker from 1941 – 1961. Today it is myself Rod and my Son Tim sharing the reins.
