Two old blokes Mark K aged 87 and Randall aged 81 were seating on a park bench at Black Rock Beach. Randall had just finished his morning jog and wasn’t even short of breath. Mark K was amazed at the guy’s stamina and asked him what he did to have so much energy. Randall said, “Well, I eat rye bread every day. It keeps your energy level high and you’ll have great stamina with the ladies.” So, on the way home Mark K stopped at the Black Rock Bakery. As he was looking around, the young sales assistant asked if he needed any help. He said, “Do you have any rye bread?” She said, “Yes, would you like some?” Mark K says, “I want five loaves please.” She said, “My goodness! By the time you get to the 3rd loaf, it’ll be hard.” He replied, “I can’t believe everybody knows about this sh#t but me.”

The $5m Caulfield Cup was first run at Caulfield Racecourse in 1879 and was won by Newminster. It has always been run over 2,400 metres and similar to the Caulfield Guineas it was run at Flemington during WWII. It is one of the BIG three best races in Australia along with the Cox Plate and the Melbourne Cup and is the richest race in the world over the 2,400 metre distance, this year prizemoney is $5m. The worst race fall in Australian history occurred at the 1885 Caulfield Cup when 15 of the 44 horses competing fell as they turned onto the straight, resulting in the death of 25-year-old jockey Donald Nicolson. Tulloch bolted away as a 3yo in 1957 and he ran the race in a track record time. At the time the owner did not want to press on to the Melbourne Cup with the young horse. Trainer Bart Cummings holds the record for training the most Caulfield Cup winners with seven – Galilee, Big Philou, Leilani, Ming Dynasty (twice), Let’s Elope and Viewed. The famous Caulfield/Melbourne Cup double in the same year has been won 11 times including Poseidon (1906), Rising Fast (1954), Galilee (1966), Let’s Elope (1982) and Might and Power (1997).
