Four great friends from Frankston, on the edge of the Mornington Peninsula in Melbourne, Geoff, Joey, Longy and Robbie spent weeks planning the perfect boys trip away, camping, drinking, golf and all the fun stuff that goes with it. Two days before the group is to leave, Robbie’s wife puts her foot down and tells him he is not going.  Robbie’s friends were very upset that he can’t go, but what could they do? Two days later, the three get to the camping site, only to find Robbie sitting there with a beer in his hand, tent set up, firewood gathered, and supper cooking on the fire. “Damn man, how long you been here and how did you talk your wife into letting you go?” Well, I’ve been here since last night. Yesterday evening I was sitting in my chair and my wife came up behind me and put her hands over my eyes and said, ‘Guess who’? I pulled her hands off and saw that she was wearing a brand new hot nightie. She took my hand and took me to our bedroom. The room had two dozen candles and rose petals all over. She had on the bed, handcuffs and ropes! She told me to cuff her and tie her to the bed which I did. And then she said, ‘Now you can do whatever you want.’ So here I am…!”

The 2020 Spring Carnival is over after tomorrow and what a different one it is, once again zero punters at the track in Melbourne, however we have 2021 to look forward to. We have six Group races at Sandown highlighted by the Sandown Classic or what is now known as the Group 2 Zipping Classic. In WA there is three Group 3 races and for the New Zealand fans there is the Group 1 New Zealand 1,000 Guineas and the Group 3 New Zealand Cup at Riccarton along with the Group 2 Tauranga Stakes at Tauranga on Saturday……

VKEEPING

Lots of people have been asking us about the Top Fluc (TF) betting particularly with the TAB’s meltdown last weekend, what a disaster it was. In fields of 5-7 we do TF for the Win, EW and place. In fields if 8-9 we do TF for the Win, in fields of 10-11 we do TF for the Win and EW and finally in fields of 12+ it is TF for the Win, EW and the place. I believe we are the only Bookmaker doing the TF for the EW and the place, remembering the TF place is 1/4 in the larger fields and 1/3 in the fields 5-7……..Also thanks for all the people that sent feedback about suggestions relating to our updated website in 2021, the best five shared the $250 getting $50 each…..

Who was Kevin Heffernan? Kevin was a longtime Victoria Amateur Turf Club (VATC) and Melbourne Racing Club (MRC) Committeeman who passed away in 2012. The third race at Sandown tomorrow is named in his honour and it is a Group 3 race over 1,300 metres. Kevin was a very good friend of mine and when I commenced Bookmaking in 1992 he helped me immensely and I have never forgotten all the advice and help I received from Kevin, one of life’s True Gentleman he was. Sometimes we need reminders of friends and families who have passed on so it is always good to reflect and think of those memories. The race tomorrow named in Kevin’s honour has had Group 3 status since 2013 and some notable winners of the Group 3 Kevin Heffernan Stakes include Teleplay (2019), Lucky Hussler (2016), Famous Seamus (2015), Lankan Rupee (2013), Mid Summer Music (2012), Soul (2011), Lucky Secret (2009), Tesbury Jack (2006), Bomber Bill (2005), Century Kid (2002) and Sports (2000)….
