Two Aussies were hunting in the Outback when they chanced upon a huge hole in the ground. They approached it cautiously and were amazed at its size and depth. The first said, “Wow, that’s some hole! I can’t even see the bottom. I wonder how deep it is.” His mate said, “Look, there’s an old gearbox over there. Let’s throw it down the hole and see how long it takes to hit the bottom.” Despite its bulk and heavy weight, they managed to pick up the gearbox and, sweating profusely, set it down on the edge of the hole. Then they counted “one-two-three” and heaved it over the brink into the hole. As they stood there looking over the edge and waiting to hear the gearbox hit the bottom, a goat suddenly came crashing through the underbrush out of nowhere at colossal speed, ran up to the hole and without hesitation, jumped in head first. The two guys were utterly mystified. They stood staring at each other in amazement and peered down into the hole, trying to figure out what such a strange turn of events could mean. Just then, an old farmer sauntered up and asked, “Say, have you fellers seen my goat?” The first hunter said, “Funny you should ask. We were just standing here a minute ago when a goat came hurtling out of the bushes doing about a hundred miles an hour and jumped head first into this here hole!” The farmer said, “Naw, that’s impossible! I had him on a long chain tied to an old gearbox.”
