A couple were invited to a swanky costume party in Bayside Melbourne. Unfortunately the wife came down with a terrible headache and told her husband to go to the party alone. He being a devoted husband protested, but she said she was going to take some panadol and was going to bed. She said there was no need for his good time being spoiled by her not going. So he took his costume and away he went. The wife after sleeping soundly for about an hour, awakened without pain and thinking it was still early enough decided to go to the party. Since her husband did not have any idea what her costume was she thought she would have some fun by watching him to see how he acted when she was not there with him. She joined the party and soon spotted her husband cavorting around on the dance floor, dancing with every nice woman he could, and copping a little touch here and a little kiss there. His wife sidled up to him and being a rather seductive individual herself he left his current partner high and dry and devoted his time and all his energy to the new woman who had just arrived at the party. She let him go as far as he wished…. Naturally, since he was her husband. Finally, he whispered a little proposition in her ear and she agreed. So off they went to one of the cars in the car park and had a quickie. Just before unmasking at Midnight, she slipped away and went home. She put the costume away and jumped into bed, wondering what kind of explanation he would come up with for his behavior. She was sitting up reading when he came in and she asked what kind of a time he had. He said: “Oh, the same old thing. you know I never ever have a good time when you’re not there.” She then asked “Did you dance much?” You know, I never even danced once all night. When I arrived there, I ran into Pistol Pete, Big Alex, Bomber, Timmsy, Randall, Mark, Bren, Quilly and some other guys who were going into the den to play poker. We played poker all evening so didn’t see much of the party. But you’re not going to believe what happened to the guy I loaned my costume to…”

The Group One Blue Diamond was first run in 1971 and was won by the 5/4 ($2.25) Favourite Tolerance by a short half head and was trained by the Legendary trainer of 2 yo’s Angus Armanasco. Tolerance was backed in from 2/1 ($3) to 5/4 ($2.25) and the early Favourite Lemon Twist blew out from 7/4 ($2.80) all the way out to 3/1 ($4). Lemon Twist ran accordingly and was 13th in a field of 16. History does not change, you need to follow the money particularly in two yo races. The race has always been run over 1,200 metres and Trainer David Hayes has the most wins with five and Dwayne Dunn has the most wins with four for a Jockey…..
