VJOKE

Three brothers Mark, Peter and Alex aged 92, 94 and 96 live together in a house in Black Rock in suburban Melbourne. One night, the 92 year old Mark goes to take a bath, he puts his foot in and pauses. Then he yells to his two brothers upstairs, ” I’ll come up and help both of you as soon as I see who is at the front door.”

With the worldwide Pandemic and the fears surrounding the coronavirus, all racing jurisdictions will be taking all precautions including racing without spectators like last Saturday’s Caulfield Meeting. We will be open every day as always while racing is on and available but we do not expect to be at the track for many months, possibly not even again in 2020………

Up on the VICBET website there are 25+ Feature Races to choose from. There is lots of interest in the Doncaster Mile in a few weeks at Royal Randwick. This week, just like last week the VSpecial is for any of the three Favourites, you can have three rolls of the board above the displayed VICBET Odds. The Golden Slipper Stakes was first run in 1957 with prize money of 20,000 pounds and truly is Australia’s best two year-old race. It was won by Todman who started 6 to 1 on ($1.16) and won by 8 lengths. It has been a Group 1 race since 1979 and this year the race is worth $3,500,000. T. J. Smith and his Daughter Gai Waterhouse have the most wins with six each. Shane Dye and Ron Quinton have the most winners as jockeys with four each. As a guide to punters if you are having a wager on the Slipper you need your selection to draw barriers one to five and the best lead up race is the Magic Night Stakes that Thermosphere won last Saturday, good odds currently $21. In one of the most sensational performances ever to win a Golden Slipper, flying filly Belle Du Jour claimed a last stride victory after missing the start and coming from last with a whirlwind finish. The win gave jubilant trainer Clarry Conners his fourth Golden Slipper victory in ten years, and young jockey Lenny Beasley his first. The effort of Belle Du Jour denied Lee Freedman a record fifth win in the event, with his filly Crowned Glory finishing a close second. Favourite Assertive Lad was a courageous third.To watch what I recall as the most amazing, freakish victory in the 2000 Golden Slipper Stakes who was owned by the Late Bob Hawke and John Singleton – CLICK HERE.
