A little old lady in her early 90’s was walking down the street dragging two large plastic garbage bags behind her. She didn’t realise one of the bags was slightly ripped and every once in a while a $20 note fell out onto the footpath. A lot of the Golfers come and pee through a knot hole in my fence, right into my flower Garden. It used to really tick me off. Kills the flowers, you know. Then I thought, why not make the best of it? So, now, I stand behind the fence by the knot hole, I am really quiet with my large, very sharp, hedge clippers. Every time some guy sticks his thing through my fence, I surprise him, grab hold of it and say, ‘OK, buddy! Give me $20, or off it comes.” “Well, that seems only fair,” said the Policeman laughing. “OK. Good luck with finding those $20 bills. Oh, by the way, what’s in the other bag?”…“Not everybody pays.”

The Group 1 Caulfield Guineas was first run at Caulfield Racecourse in 1881 when it was won by Wheatear and has always been run over 1,600 metres. Interestingly it was only during WWII that it left Caulfield for a few years as it was run at Flemington. In recent times Surround (1976) and Red Anchor (1984) have won the Caulfield Guineas/Cox Plate double. Sixteen horses have won the Caulfield Guineas/Victoria Derby double, including Tulloch (1957), Red Anchor (1984) and Mahogany (1993). Some of the notable winners include Heroic (1924), Ajax (1937), Hydrogen (1951), Tulloch (1957), Storm Queen (1966), Vain (1969), Surround (1976), Luskin Star (1977), Manikato (1978), Red Anchor (1984), Mahogany (1993), Redoute’s Choice (1999), Lonhro (2001), Weekend Hussler (2007), Starspangledbanner (2009), All Too Hard (2012) and The Autumn Son (2018)…….…The best Caulfield Guineas I ever witnessed was in 1999, this will get the blood going watching Redoute’s Choice win  – CLICK HERE
