It is the final day of Flemington’s Spring Carnival and it is a cracking day of racing! It is headlined by the Group 1 Mackinnon Stakes as well as the Group 1 Darley Sprint Classic. There is also a Group 2 race and two Group 3 races. Rosehill and Ascot are both hosting one Group 2 race as well.

The Mackinnon Stakes was first run in 1869 and is a Group 1 thoroughbred race run under weight for age conditions over 2000 metres at Flemington racecourse. It is run the Saturday on the last day of Flemington’s Spring Carnival with a total prize money of $2,000,000. Twelve horses have won the famous race two times with one of the more noted names there being Phar Lap. The horses named Wakeful and Tranquil Star are the only two horses in history to win this race on three separate occasions.
